Method
- Separate the onion layers and place them in a pan with oil, butter, and a pinch of salt. Cover and cook for 10 minutes until soft.
- Add sugar and vinegar to the onions, stir, and caramelize further.
- Prepare the dough according to the quantities in the description and let it rise.
- Divide the risen dough into 4 equal parts. Roll each part into a thin sheet.
- Spread butter, grated Parmesan, thyme, and a layer of caramelized onions on the first sheet. Repeat for the second and third sheets, stacking them.
- Place a piece of cheese (e.g., Cenemberbert) in the center of the third layer.
- Cover with the fourth sheet of dough.
- Cut the dough stack into 16 equal wedges without cutting through the center.
- Twist each wedge as shown, forming the snowflake shape by joining the tips.
- Bake in the oven until golden brown.
