AI summary of what 3 dish mentions say about the food

Reviewers rave about the crispy, golden deruny, calling them the soul of Ukrainian comfort food. The overall vibe is warm, hearty, and deeply satisfying home cooking.

This is like a grated potato pancake with chicken, mushrooms, and cheese on top. It's like a diane but with sour cream. There's a crispy layer of potato underneath like a big massive hash brown, but within that it's really finely grated potato. It hasn't got the big long strands of potato you might get in a hash brown — it's super finely grated, kind of like a pizza base almost. Normally I don't order mushrooms, but my childhood fear of mushrooms is going away thanks to traveling. That potato cake on the bottom is seriously so good.

A cozy Ukrainian cafe with an inspiring story, serving hearty, homemade Eastern European comfort food like solyanka, deruny, and varenyky — all made fresh daily with love.

    • Solyanka

This is the first time I'm trying Ukrainian food. I start with the solyanka, which has potatoes, sausages, carrots, onions, and olives. It's cooked fresh this morning. I love a smoked sausage like an Eastern European smoked sausage. Pure unadulterated comfort in a bowl. Comes with bread to dip. The bread is super soft with those little bits of smoked sausage in there. There are three different types of sausages — thick ones, thin ones — and they are experts at crafting sausages. These are so nice, so beautiful, so smoky. There's a little bit of a spice to them as well. The sweetness of the carrot comes through, and then the olive gives it a little bit of a zip.

    • Deruny

    • Varenyky

These are traditional Ukrainian dumplings called varenyky. Not quite a pierogi, but they have minced pork inside and they've been covered in a creamy but gorgeous mushroom sauce. You can see why this is the most popular. They make these fresh every single day, then freeze them and sell them so you can take them home and boil them yourself. I might take a few back for the wife because she is a massive fan of pierogi from when we went to Krakow. Another thing about these sorts of countries — they use sour cream so much. That dumpling is beautiful.
