The story

Tucked away in an old converted house in Hua Hin, Tanya’s is famously difficult to book—and for good reason. Gary Butler of The Roaming Cook declared that every dish here is a 9 or 10, with the green curry with beef standing out as “the best I’ve ever had.” He called the restaurant “now in my top five in Thailand,” praising its home-style Hua Hin recipes that feel anything but touristy.

With a solid 4.3-star rating, this buzzy, reservation-only spot has earned its status as a hidden gem. The menu features local seafood and Thai classics—Butler highlighted the Gaeng Keow Wan Neua (green curry with beef), Khao Poo Pad Prik Luang (crab fried rice), and See Kong Moo Tom Kem (salted pork ribs soup), among others. For travelers seeking authentic, non-touristy flavors in Tambon Nong Kae, Tanya’s delivers an unforgettable meal worth planning ahead for.

Tanya’s delivers a warm, comforting vibe, with the Pad Mak Yaow emerging as the standout dish, praised for its bold, satisfying flavors.

This is long green aubergines stir-fried with minced pork, cooked Bor An style properly. It's a common dish in cow gang shops in Bangkok but here they've stuffed prawn meat inside — the original way but more expensive. It's fantastic — smoky, salty. This could be probably my favorite version of one of my favorite stir-fries of all time.

A FULL DAY EATING THE BEST THAI FOOD in HUA HIN & PHETCHABURI 🇹🇭🔥(Non Touristy) · @ 13:23

    Loved

Tanya's is an incredibly difficult-to-book restaurant in an old converted house serving home-style Hua Hin recipes — every dish is a 9 or 10, the green curry with beef is the best I've ever had, and it's now in my top five restaurants in Thailand.

    Dishes mentioned

    • Gaeng Keow Wan Neua

This green curry with beef is one of the famous signature dishes here. I was expecting the beef to be tough but it's absolutely melt-in-your-mouth — the flavor of the beef has permeated through the whole soup. I was also expecting it to be sweet but it's not — you can tell by the separation on the oil that they've used fresh coconut milk and cream. This is hands down the best green Thai curry I've ever eaten. Dish of the day for me.

    • Khao Poo Pad Prik Luang

This is mixed crab on rice with lump meat and claw meat, chilies, and onions. The crab is absolutely unbelievable — the quality is unreal, all steamed to perfection, soft, nothing overcooked. It's quite simple and plain but not in a bad way — you're just letting the crab talk. I'd probably travel just to eat that.

    • See Kong Moo Tom Kem

These slow-cooked salted pork ribs have absolutely zero resistance — melt-in-your-mouth with tons of collagen. Although a touch on the sweet side, it's absolutely incredible. That could be my favorite dish so far — next level.

    • Pad Neua Bai Yeera

This is minced beef with cumin leaves or clove basil — sort of like pad krapow but with bai yeera instead. The beef is really good — the clove basil works so much better with beef than krapow. It's got that clovey flavor, peppery, nice and spicy. Top.

    • Yum Makher Yang

This grilled aubergine salad has shallots, minced pork, minced prawn in a sour sweet dressing. The prawns are unbelievable — really soft, slightly chewy but not overly chewy. The minced pork adds texture, peanuts give crunch. It's zingy with lime juice, fish sauce, garlic dressing. The aubergines have been grilled over coals so they're really smoky, imparting that flavor throughout. This is the sleeper dish for me — delicious.
