The story
Mercato del Capo is a compact, deeply traditional market tucked into Palermo’s historic grid, earning a solid 4.3-star rating from visitors. Travel creator Alex Mark Travel calls it “a great start to the day,” capturing the lively, buzzy energy of stalls piled with fresh produce and authentic local street food. With outdoor seating and takeout options, it feels like an unfiltered slice of daily Palermitan life, far from the tourist trail.
Among the stalls, two street-food icons stand out. The Cannolo Siciliano is a must-try dessert, emblematic of the region’s prowess. Meanwhile, Salvo Guarneri highlights the sfincionello—thin, crispy, and cooked on a hot plate—judging it one of the cheapest and best in the city. For a quick, immersive taste of Sicilian food culture, this market delivers.

Reviewers rave about the cannolo siciliano, praising its crisp shell and creamy ricotta. The overall vibe is one of authentic, joyful Sicilian street food that feels like a warm embrace.
“I got a Cannolo Siciliano freshly made in front of me, stuffed with ricotta, topped with chocolate drops and two sweet cherries. The ricotta is very fresh and cool, the pastry is thin and very crunchy — just how it should be. The powdered sugar makes everything really sweet, but also so delicious.”

A lively street market where the creator finds one of the cheapest and best sfincionelli in Palermo, prepared thin and crispy on a hot plate.

Sfincionello
I'm at Mercato del Capo where they sell one of the cheapest and best sfincionelli in the city. The street version is much thinner, with little onion, tomato, and breadcrumbs — unlike the bakery version which is loaded with onion, anchovies, and cheese. They heat it on a hot plate, add oil, pepper, and a bit of oregano, then flip it to heat both sides. After 4 minutes it's ready — hot, crunchy, and delicious. Only here.
