The story
McBon, a Torino chain that calls itself “slow fast food,” stakes its reputation on local Fassona beef. Creator Franchino Er Criminale offered a measured take: his MacBun burger was decent, he said, but “let down by a lack of sear on the patty”—a small but telling flaw for a place aiming for elevated fast food.
Giuliacrossbow, by contrast, couldn’t have been more enthusiastic. She called McBon “a much better experience than Eataly,” praising friendly staff, great sauces, juicy meat, and crunchy salad, and declaring the prices fair enough to recommend to anyone visiting Turin. Her picks were the Gaute Mac da Suta and the Kiel. With a solid 4.3-star rating, McBon clearly divides opinion, but it’s winning a loyal local following—and that’s the kind of argument that keeps a city’s food scene interesting.

Reviewers rave about the succulent, perfectly seasoned Kiel, calling it a must-order, and the overall vibe is one of unpretentious, satisfying comfort food that delivers on flavor.
“This is the classic one, first on the menu. It has both rubra sauce and mayonnaise. The salad is still crunchy, beautiful. The patty is a bit boiled underneath, you can see it, but the cooking isn't the best — honest. But there's a lot of stuff, a lot of locals go here. The meat is good, mixed beef and pork. The rubra sauce is interesting — I think they put a bit of pepper in it. Many use it for dipping boiled meat too. Simple, winning, good. I don't love tomato in burgers, but this is solid.”

A much better experience than Eataly: friendly staff, great sauces, juicy meat, crunchy salad, and fair prices — I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Turin.

Gaute Mac da Suta
The bread is toasted, crunchy, much better than the other place. The salad is super crunchy — not iceberg. There's barbecue sauce, two tomatoes, a beef and pork patty, caramelised onions, and pancetta. The meat is very juicy, not badly defrosted. The caramelised onions are really dark, super caramelised, they push the flavour. The pancetta is good. Extremely satisfying. I don't love tomato in burgers, but that's personal.

A Torino slow fast food chain using local Fassona beef, with a decent burger let down by a lack of sear on the patty.

MacBun
This is their signature burger: Fassona beef patty, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, and their house-made Rubra ketchup with a hint of apple cider vinegar. The bun is different from a typical fast food bun — it holds together well, doesn't crumble, and keeps everything in place. The meat is good quality, you can really taste it, but it lacks a Maillard reaction — it's boiled, not seared, so there's no crust or crunch. That's a shame because the meat deserves better cooking. For €9, it's a decent value, but the cooking holds it back. I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10.
