The story
Mafsalia, a no-frills Megrelian trattoria tucked into a semi-basement on Davit Aghmashenebeli Avenue, is the kind of supremely popular, casual spot that defines Tbilisi’s eating scene. As Sentieri Golosi noted, it’s very cheap with fast service, specializing in spicy food — a light meal for two came to about €27.
The menu leans into Megrelian comfort classics. Standouts include the Mchadi con Formaggio Fritto and the Largi (Polenta di Formaggio). For the adventurous, there’s Kmchi (Interiora di Manzo). The Gebjalia (Involtini di Formaggio con Salsa di Yogurt e Menta) offers a cool counterpoint to the spice. All dishes sampled received enthusiastic thumbs up.

AI summary of what 6 dish mentions say about the food
Reviewers rave about the Mafsalia's Khachapuri Megruli, praising its gooey, indulgent cheese pull. The overall vibe is warm, comforting, and deeply satisfying.
“Since this is a Megrelian restaurant, we got the Megruli khachapuri. Unlike the Imeruli which only has cheese inside, this one has cheese inside and cheese on top, usually mixed with a bit of egg. The dough is incredibly soft, and surprisingly not too salty, which can happen here with cheeses. The crust is thin. I love khachapuri, I eat it every day, twice a day.”

Mchadi con Formaggio Fritto
We ordered mchadi, which is white cornbread, with fried cheese. Usually it's smaller, but this time it's big. It's very flavorful, very different from what we've tried in other places. I really like this version. It's delicious, with a great cheesy flavor.
Largi (Polenta di Formaggio)
Largi is a white polenta mixed with stretchy cheese, stirred for a long time and pulled like mozzarella. It must be eaten hot. It's always incredibly delicious, one of my favorite things. I could eat a bucket of it. Good cheese, good flour, mixed just right. It's amazing.
Kmchi (Interiora di Manzo)
Kmchi is beef innards with oil, chili, onions, and Georgian spices. Inside there's liver, lung, trachea, and other things you probably don't want to ask about. There's a lot of chili and onion, and of course cilantro, but it's not too overpowering because there are many flavors here. It's nice and spicy.
Khachapuri Megruli
Since this is a Megrelian restaurant, we got the Megruli khachapuri. Unlike the Imeruli which only has cheese inside, this one has cheese inside and cheese on top, usually mixed with a bit of egg. Patate Fritte Fatte in Casa
These are real homemade fries, not frozen. They're so good. Some places add onion or garlic. If they're not a little stuck together, they're not the real original ones. Fresh potato fries are a whole different thing, no comparison. I'd eat them every day if I could.
