The story
KG BBQ is the Austin food truck that Michael Ligier calls "a new kid on the block doing insanely good Egyptian barbecue." What sets this spot apart is its smart use of ingredients like pomegranate, za'atar, and sumac on "wonderfully smoked meats," creating a fusion that feels both fresh and rooted. It’s Texas barbecue technique meeting Middle Eastern pantry—and it works.
Ligier, who featured the truck in two different ranking videos, highlights three standout dishes: lamb chops, brisket served with pita and pomegranate seeds, and pork ribs glazed in pomegranate. He praises how the truck "masterfully blends Texas barbecue techniques with Egyptian flavors." For a casual counter-service spot that also does takeout, KG BBQ has earned its rep as a hidden gem—and a trendy one at that.

AI summary of what 3 dish mentions say about the food
KG BBQ’s lamb chops earn rave reviews for their tender, smoky perfection, capturing a warm, unfussy vibe that feels like a backyard feast.
“Oh, that might be giving the peach tea glazed pork belly from Interstellar a run for its money because that is so good. I feel like with lamb sometimes it's a bit too gamey, but this one is kept really light. You get a nice spice level in the back of your throat and then the chimichurri keeps it really bright and fresh as well. Holy crap.”

Texas Style Brisket with Pita
This is like the Egyptian version of a fold over. The brisket has that nice chew to it which is great, but you still get the really tender sort of brisket. The pita is a nice way to wrap around it and then the pomegranate seeds add a little bit of crunch and a little bit of tang with it. That is just a perfect bite.
Pork Ribs with Pomegranate Glaze
We've had a lot of ribs, but we haven't had a rib quite like this. This is spiced and then it has a pomegranate glaze as well. The sweetness comes through really nicely, but then it's still a little bit almost like acidic, tangy — I guess that's what pomegranates are. And then the spice comes in a little bit later. It's not like a spicy spice, but it almost has like slight floral notes, which is really beautiful.
