The story

Juno the Bakery, at Århusgade 48 in Copenhagen, has earned a 4.7-star reputation as one of the city’s essential pastry destinations. Food critic Michael Ligier calls it “probably the best bakery in Copenhagen,” with cardamom buns that are “absolutely insane and worth the long wait.” Creators consistently warn about the queue but agree it’s justified; Doobydobap suggests heading after 1 p.m. for a shorter line.

The cardamom bun steals the show across reviews. The creator behind Cosa mangiamo oggi? calls the cardamom knot “the best I’ve ever had” and says it’s “worth the chaos and the price.” Beyond that, reviewers also praise the plain and chocolate croissants, a cardamom bun with custard, and Danish butter cookies—each earning a thumbs-up. With its instagrammable yet casual vibe, Juno has become both a local spot and a tourist-friendly stop.

Reviewers rave about the cardamom bun, calling it a must-try, while the overall vibe is one of cozy, confident warmth that makes every bite feel like a small celebration.

Oh my god. Oh, unreal. They've got this interior that is quite dense, quite chewy, quite moist, which is lovely. It's got that little bit of sweetness from the sugar, but then the cardamom comes in a little bit of spice underneath. Not like a spicy heat kind of spice, but more of a warming fall time spice. It's fall right now. The leaves are changing. I'm wearing a coat outside. This hits the spot. The cardamom bun rating, drum roll, please. 12.5 out of 10. They're insane.

I have yet to try a cardamom bun — it is touristy, there is a long line, but it's worth it. Juno really mastered the light and airiness of this cardamom bun. Holy smokes, it's so light and fluffy. I could eat like 10 more of them. The balance of spice is also really, really on point. If there's another line, I'm going to buy one more.

    • Cardamom Bun with Custard

These are superb. Wow. This one, I expected it to be really, really sweet, but I'm giving it the biggest Asian compliment. It's not too sweet, which is just perfect. Look, this one is good, but it can't beat the cardamom bun. 9 out of 10.

    • Danish Butter Cookies

I can tell the difference. I mean, it's just night and day. Those blue tins, fantastic. Hit the spot when needed, but they are quite dry. These ones, super nice. These butter cookies get an 8.5 out of 10, but a plus one bonus for nostalgia.

Juno Bakery has world-renowned cardamom buns that are light and airy with perfectly balanced spice — there's a long line but it's worth it, and a pro tip is to head over after 1:00 p.m. when the line is shorter.
