What diners say

Synthesized from 35 Google reviews · tap an aspect for the detail

Diners consistently praise the quality of ingredients and the confident, ingredient-driven cooking at Gresca, with standout dishes like the quail, grilled vegetables, and French toast earning frequent mentions. The open kitchen and lively atmosphere add to the appeal, though many note that portions are small and the experience can feel rushed. A recurring reservation is that the service, while sometimes warm, can be inconsistent and occasionally brusque, with some guests feeling hurried or encountering dismissive attitudes.

Food quality and standout dishes

Reviewers consistently highlight the high quality of ingredients and skilled preparation, with specific praise for the quail, grilled vegetables, oysters, tuna and tomato salad, pil pil cod, and the Spanish French toast. The cooking is described as confident and ingredient-driven, making for a memorable meal.

Portion sizes and value

A common observation is that portions are small, especially for the price, with many guests feeling they need to order multiple dishes to feel satisfied. While some find the pricing justified by quality, others feel the value is not always there, particularly for simpler dishes.

Service consistency

Service experiences vary widely: some guests find the staff warm and welcoming, while others encounter dismissive or rushed treatment. A few reviewers mention feeling hurried to order or that the pace felt off, and there are occasional reports of unprofessional behavior from specific staff members.

Atmosphere and setting

The open kitchen and bar seating are popular, offering a front-row view of the cooking action. The ambiance is described as lively and neighborhood-like, though some note that noise levels can be high and tables are close together.

Wine and beverage program

The wine list receives consistent praise, with the sommelier noted for good pairings. However, a few guests find the wine list overpriced relative to the cuisine, and one reviewer had a mismatch with a natural wine recommendation.

Booking and seating

Some guests mention issues with seating requests not being honored, such as not getting the chefs table after booking in advance. A few also note that the hostess can be less accommodating, though waitstaff and sommelier often compensate.

AI summary of what 25 dish mentions say about the food

Gresca’s bikini sandwich steals the show, praised as a perfect, crispy bite. The overall vibe is warm, unpretentious, and quietly brilliant.

This beautiful thing that just arrived is called Bikini — it's basically a toast. I'd say it's a Smash Bikini. In its simplicity, this thing is amazing.

This beautiful thing that just arrived is called bikini — here it's made in a super good, slightly dirty version. It's just a ham and cheese sandwich, a toast. The most loyal of you will remember the first time we talked about it was at Alchemist, obviously a Rasmus Munk version. But in its simplicity, this is a must-order. I'd say it's a smash bikini, delicious.

Gresca in Barcelona is a super recommended spot where every dish impressed, especially the animella which melts in your mouth.

    Dishes mentioned

    • Pan con Tomate con Acciughe

We start with a classic Pan con Tomate with anchovies — here they serve the anchovies by the piece. Simple but good, the Pan con Tomate is everywhere in Barcelona.

    • Melanzana Glassata con Brodo di Pollo e Crema di Parmigiano

We ordered this glazed eggplant with chicken broth and parmesan cream on the side. Good, guys! The eggplant is really something — so good.

    • Brodino Asiatico con Uovo

An Asian-style broth arrived with an egg inside — I don't know why I ordered it, it just appealed to me. Ah, there's the yolk. But there's a little problem: there's only one. Break it if you don't want to force me to order another one. Guys, this broth with the egg is incredible — get one each.

    • Bikini

    • Animella

On a wave of enthusiasm I asked what their signature dish is that we can't miss. The answer was the animella — it melts in your mouth. Sorry, let me taste again because I don't think I understood correctly. The best dish of all. Don't leave this place without having the animella — it's so indulgent.

Mega recommended place — we didn't show too many bites and comments because we wanted to chat with Paco. If you're interested in Paco and his cooking, a bomb video is coming. I don't know how much we spent because I would have had to kill Paco to pay instead of him, but the place is super recommended.

    Dishes mentioned

    • Cicchetti e Zuppa di Piselli

We started with some cicchetti and pea soup — I'm so happy Paco is handling the order, I wouldn't be able to.

    • Aioli Sal Bur Burato e Romes Mandorle e Paprica

Look how cute — they wrote the names of the fish directly on the plate. Aioli, sal, burrata, and romesco with almonds and paprika. And then some prawns. I think these shots are worth more than any comment.

    • Tagliere di Salumi

A cutting board of cured meats — they have a face, not bad.

    • Carne

Meat moment — I don't want to leave this place anymore, guys, it's official.

    • Tocinillo de Cielo

Despite having eaten like pigs, Franci doesn't say no to dessert — tocinillo de cielo, which is egg yolk and sugar, super typical of Spain.

We started with a bang — this place is super recommended, we spent €90 including three glasses of wine and the animella was €26, overall it's worth it.

    Dishes mentioned

    • Pan con Tomate

We started with a classic pan con tomate and two anchovies — here they serve the anchovies by the piece because they're super anchovies, not the jar kind. Simple but good.

    • Melanzana Glassata con Brodo di Pollo e Crema di Parmigiano

We ordered this glazed eggplant with chicken broth and parmesan cream on the side. Good, really good — the eggplant is amazing, so much flavour.

    • Brodino Asiatico con Uovo

An Asian-style broth arrived with an egg inside — I don't know why I ordered it, it just inspired me. After three and a half dishes I can say if you come here you can order anything from the menu at random. This broth with the egg is incredible, and it's not spicy but peppery. Get one each — we ordered too little.

    • Animella

On a wave of enthusiasm I asked what their signature dish is that we can't miss — the answer was the animella (sweetbreads). And here it is — it doesn't even look like animella. It melts in your mouth. Sorry, let me taste again because I don't think I understood correctly. The best dish of all. Okay, all the previous dishes were good, but don't leave this place without having the animella — it's insane. The outer part is crunchy too. I'm speechless. Delicious animella.
