The story

Cornicopia, a luxurious fine dining destination by three-Michelin-starred chef Clare Smyth, redefines the classic British staple. As Mark Wiens noted during his London fish and chips guide, this Belgravia spot offers “the ultimate pampering fish and chips,” featuring a Dover sole stuffed with lobster mousse. The experience extends beyond that: a seven-vinegar tasting menu and impeccable starters set the stage for an elevated meal.

The kitchen turns out elegant plates like the Lobster Bisque, Thermidor and Aged Cheddar Toast, Leek Vinaigrette with Smoked Egg Yolk, and a Seafood Vol-au-Vent. Sides include Dauphine and Anna Potatoes. With a 4.6-star rating, an open kitchen, and an intimate, elegant setting, Cornicopia delivers a refined yet unmistakably British seafood experience worth seeking out.

Cornicopia’s Anna potatoes emerge as the star, earning rapturous praise for their crisp, buttery layers. Reviewers describe the overall vibe as comforting yet refined, a warm embrace of simple, brilliant cooking.

These have crispy layers, clarified butter on each layer, and then the infused herbal cream. It's so crispy on the top and then all those different layers of potato. You can already smell that butteriness when you take it to your mouth and the potatoes just melt in your mouth. That crispy top. I think it's a chive sour cream on top. Perfect pairing. So rich. That is unbelievable.

London’s Best Fish and Chips!! (The Only Guide You Need) · @ 31:15

    Loved

A luxurious fine dining restaurant by three Michelin-starred chef Clare Smyth, serving an elevated fish and chips experience with Dover sole stuffed with lobster mousse, a seven-vinegar tasting menu, and impeccable starters — the ultimate pampering fish and chips in London.

    Dishes mentioned

    • Lobster Bisque

The lobster bisque is so aromatic. The foaminess, that lobster, the herbs in here. The creaminess, the richness, just the depth of complexity from that lobster, especially probably that lobster head cooks down releasing all that flavor. Amazing.

    • Thermidor and Aged Cheddar Toast

This goes along with the lobster bisque. You smell the aroma of that aged cheddar before you take a bite. That complexity, that char on the outside, the butteriness. Excellent.

    • Leek Vinaigrette with Smoked Egg Yolk and Shallots

This looks so beautiful and refreshing. The silkiness of those leeks, the sweetness coming out. Very herbal. You don't really taste the starchiness of the yolks, but it's like this really smokiness from those yolks in there. That is so good.

    • Seafood Vol-au-Vent

This has scallops, prawns, mussels, champagne velouté. There's pastry, all the seafood on top. There's lobster, mussels, scallops. Juicy creaminess throughout the entire pastry. The fresh seafood, the bounciness of that lobster is just cheesy, foamy, and creamy. Has this herbal oil flavor to it. The quality, just the freshness of every dish so far is phenomenal.

    • Dover Sole with Lobster Mousse and Chips

This is the ultimate fine dining fish and chips. They use Dover sole, one of the premium fish, with a lobster mousse stuffed inside — the mousse is surrounded by the sole wrapped up. The batter is unbelievably crispy and so light and puffy and bubbly in your mouth with that beer batter. The Dover sole is like the Rolls-Royce of fish — so delicate, so soft, so oily, melts in your mouth, and then you have that aroma and faint subtle flavor of the lobster mousse encased within the sole. You know immediately it's fish and chips, but at the same time the quality and luxuriousness of the ingredients make it so spectacular. The triple-cooked chips are crispy on the outside, soft and silky, melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. The mushy peas are incredible — they taste like young peas, not starchy, more silky in texture, nice and minty and buttery. The vinegar menu with seven different vinegars is a whole experience — the malt vinegar provides nice acidity, the Chardonnay vinegar is less acidic but more rich, and the ice cider vinegar has a sweetness and syrupiness with that acidity. This is fish and chips pampering right here.
